The man was discovered by officers at about 1300 GMT on Sunday in a flat in Austin Road in Handsworth, police said.

Officers were alerted by a concerned member of the public who said they had not seen the man for several days.

The man, who is believed to be from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem revealed he died of multiple stab wounds, police said.

Police expect to be in a position to formally identify the victim on Tuesday, the spokesman added.
