Choir tuning up for Cofton Park mass

Three generations of one family are getting ready to perform at a Mass taken by the Pope on Sunday.

Helena Madden, her father Maurice, daughters Elizabeth, 13, and Sarah, 15, and husband Francis, are members of Our Lady of the Wayside Church, Shirley.

Their church will join a choir of 2,000 people, made up from 17 churches across the Birmingham diocese at Sunday's mass in Cofton Park.

Mrs Madden said she was hopeful her choir would not let the side down.

The choir started its rehearsals in June. The Birmingham diocese stretches from Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire to Oxfordshire and the plan is they will all come together for a day long rehearsal on Saturday.

Pope Benedict XVI arrives on Thursday for a four-day stay which will see him attend events in Scotland and England.
