Newbury fatal crash boys still in hospital

Three boys involved in a car crash in which another boy died are still being treated in hospital.

Charlie Townsend, 15, who was a passenger in the car, died in the accident in Enborne, Newbury.

His twin brother Ben, who was also a passenger in the Vauxhall Zafira and two other boys, aged 15 and 16, are in hospital.

The car hit a tree in Wheatlands Lane at about 04:00 BST on Monday. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Book of condolence

Paying tribute to him in a statement, his family said: "We are utterly devastated at the loss of Charlie, our loving, kind and funny boy who had so much potential to make a difference in the world.

"He will forever be remembered and always in our hearts."

Derek Peaple, headteacher at Park House School, where Charlie was a pupil, said: "We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news. Our thoughts are with all the families of those involved.

"We are of course devastated by the loss of Charlie, who was an immensely popular student, passionate about football and awaiting his GCSE results.

"A book of condolence has been opened at school and we are working with the local authority to provide support for students at this very sad time."
