Sightings of a patient missing from a secure unit at a hospital in Berkshire are being investigated by police.

John Maguire, 43, left Thornford Park Hospital in Crookham, near Thatcham, at lunchtime on Saturday and people have been warned not to approach him.

Police said he could "become aggressive if challenged" and urged anyone who sees him to contact them.

They are investigating reported sightings of Mr Maguire in Thatcham and Burghfield.

Scar on cheek

He was last seen wearing a brown T-shirt with yellow and white stripes and a black jacket, but may have changed his clothes since leaving hospital, police said.

Anyone who has seen a man matching that description is urged to contact police.

Acting Supt Lindsey Finch said: "We are continuing to appeal for help in finding John, as he has now been missing for two days.

"The public should not approach John if they see him, but phone us immediately.

"We have information that John can become aggressive if challenged, so please phone 101 if you see him, or 999 in an emergency."

She said a "large number of officers" were involved in the search for Mr Maguire, which has been widened to across the county and surrounding police forces.
