A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his boyfriend through the heart.

Ivan Svatkovskij, of Appledore, Bracknell was found guilty of murdering 21-year-old Aleksandrs Vasilievs in September following a two-week trial.

Svatkovskij claimed his partner had committed suicide but the jury at Reading Crown Court "saw through his lies", police said.

He will serve a minimum of 15 years before being eligible for parole.

Mr Vasilievs, a Latvian national, had been stabbed in Appledore on the night of Friday 20 September.

Police said he "died from a single stab wound to the heart" after what they believe was an argument between the two men.
