Wokingham centre revamp consultation ends

A consultation with residents on £95m plans to redevelop a Berkshire town centre has closed.

Proposals to build new homes, a supermarket and a hotel in Wokingham were withdrawn last month.

The council said it wanted to get the design right and give people the chance to influence resubmitted bids for Elms Field and Peach Place.

Campaigners are trying to stop the authority building on open space at Elms Field.

The council said it was still committed to the revamp but in light of public reaction it wanted to start afresh rather than try and amend the original applications.
