Windsor and Maidenhead council 24-hour hotline starts

A new out-of-hours telephone service to allow people to report rule-breakers in their neighbourhoods has gone live.

The six-month pilot will collect reports of unauthorised tree felling, planning breaches, dangerous structures and late-night noise.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council's cabinet agreed to the move in September.

The authority said residents expected action to be taken to deal with urgent problems at all times of the day.

A team of officers have been placed on an on-call rota to man the 01753 853517 number.

The service is estimated to cost £16,500 annually and take 50 to 100 extra calls every year.
