A gas leak in Slough has forced residents to spend a second night away from their homes.

Firefighters and police were called to Wood Close, Cippenham, just before 23:00 GMT on Tuesday. The occupants of 20 homes had to leave.

A National Grid spokesman said roads were still closed and a 360m (1,200ft) cordon remained in place while engineers worked on a repair.

He added that work would take place between midnight and 05:00 GMT.

"We're hoping to do a repair and we want to try and get it done as soon as possible," he said.

Eighteen homes remain evacuated.

National Grid said no-one was injured or taken ill during the leak.
