A gas leak in Slough has forced residents to spend a night away from their homes.

Firefighters and police were called to Wood Close, Cippenham just before 23:00 GMT on Tuesday after the leak was discovered.

The occupants of 20 homes had to leave and spend the night with friends and family, 18 homes remain evacuated.

Roads have also been closed and a 360m cordon is in place while National Grid gas engineers make the gas main safe.

Darren Elsom from National Grid, said: "We've reduced the pressure to make the area safer, and all the gas is venting safely into the atmosphere.

"We're trying to come up with a solution that will keep the gas on at people's homes and allow us to fix it."

National Grid said no-one was injured or taken ill during the leak.
