A34 to close throughout weekend in west Berkshire

Motorists face a 68-mile detour as a major A-road closes over the weekend for bridge maintenance.

The southbound A34 in Berkshire will be closed until 06:00 GMT on Monday between the A4130 Milton Interchange and Junction 13 of the M4.

The Highways Agency says the diversion will add a minimum of an hour to journeys.

College Farm Bridge is being resurfaced and waterproofed while the central reservation is reconstructed.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted via the M4, A404(M), A404 and M40. Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A4 and A338.

Steve Cobb from the Highways Agency said it was the only way to "get the job done in one go".
