Children in Reading could get £10 each in savings account

Every child in Reading could be given £10 when they reach Year 5 under a plan put before councillors.

The authority would have to spend an estimated £16,000 to fund the proposal for the next school year.

The money would be put into a credit union account with the aim to educate children on saving money.

Liberal Democrat group leader Councillor Ricky Duveen, who backs the idea, said the idea was in its early stages.
