A 12-year-old boy has died after jumping into the Jubilee River in Slough on Tuesday evening.
The boy got into difficulties immediately while swimming and police were called to Wood Lane in Cippenham at 20:00 BST.
His body was discovered just after midnight following a search.
Police warned of "hidden dangers" under the water and advised people to resist the temptation of jumping in when the weather was warm.
Investigating officer Det Sgt Lucy Deane from Slough Force CID said: "Our thoughts go out to the family of this young boy, who has become the victim of what appears to be a tragic accident.
"The incident is being thoroughly investigated, but we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances at this time."
