Man tries to grab hand of girl, six, in Tilehurst

A man tried to grab the hand of a six-year-old girl while she was out playing with a friend in a Berkshire town.

The girls were approached by the man, who was with a small child, near the Ringwood Road and Romsey Road junction in Tilehurst.

They fled to the home of the six-year-old girl and alerted her parents at about 19:00 BST on Saturday.

There is no suggestion that the man tried to take the girls from the area, said police.

Officers searched the area and conducted house-to-house inquiries.

Det Insp Liz Kirk is appealing for witnesses and said the girls would be interviewed by specially-trained officers.
