Drivers face up to two years of delays with the launch of a project to improve traffic flow at a busy roundabout in Bracknell town centre.
Work at the Twin Bridges roundabout involves widening nearby Downshire Way and resurfacing part of the road.
The westbound stretch of the road is to be reduced to one lane for about about nine weeks during the first phase.
The project is designed to prepare the town's roads for more traffic following a revamp of the town centre.
Bev Hindle, chief officer for planning and transport at Bracknell Forest Council, said the changes were essential.
She added: "We understand that these improvements may cause some disruption and ask motorists to please be patient."
From July, work will start on widening all lanes in and out of the Twin Bridges junction.
Improved traffic signals are also to be installed to increase capacity and improve traffic flow.
Council officials said an order would be put in place preventing any more road works - apart from emergency repairs - taking place at Twin Bridges for at least three years once the project is complete.
