Hampshire ferry operator to replace its ageing ships

A ferry operator is to replace its ageing fleet of ships in Portsmouth.

Wightlink, which runs ferries across the Solent, said its next generation of ships will be slower, bigger and more efficient.

Its existing fleet was built about 30 years ago.

The firm has warned high speed ferries could become obsolete as the rising costs of fuel are changing the way people travel.
