Residents of 160 houses in Wokingham remain without gas after water seeped into the gas main.

The gas supply to the homes was cut off on Friday after 550 litres of water got into the gas pipe.

All gas systems in the homes have been shut down by engineers while the pipes are repaired and specialist tankers pump the water out.

Chloe Boyce from Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) said: "By darkness tonight we should have the vast majority back on."

SGN has a customer service team handing out electric cooking and heating equipment at All Saints primary school on Norreys Avenue.

Ms Boyce said: "We'd like to thank everyone for their patience while we reconnect them."
