Chalk mine safety works complete

Safety work to stabilise disused chalk mines under homes in Reading has been completed.

Work has been done in phases since a major collapse in 2000 left residents of 30 homes in the Field Road and Coley Road area temporarily homeless.

The empty cavities which date from the 1800s have now been filled with concrete.
