The Cloisters mental health care home opens in Newbury

A new care home that will house mental health patients in a more "homely environment" is officially opening in Berkshire later.

The Cloisters in Newbury cost £3.5m and has 24 beds designed to help adults with long-term problems.

Patients have been moved from a single ward at Prospect Park Hospital.

The manager of the new facility Paul Cowens said: "The idea was to create something that gave the service users more individual space."

There are two separate wards at The Cloisters, one for the more clinically dependent and the other for more active patients.

It is being opened in the town at 12:30 BST by local MP Richard Benyon.
