A £7m project to revamp the Windsor and Eton relief road ahead of the 2012 Olympics is due to end on 4 April.

The carriageway is being resurfaced as part of the revamp before the Games, where it will be a main route for the rowing events at Dorney Lake.

The final major task will start later and will see the quieter road surface laid and new traffic lights installed on the Clarence Road roundabout.

The roundabout will be shut at night during the work with diversions.

Public art

There will also be part-closures during the day over the next three weekends.

Full details are available from Windsor and Maidenhead's council's website.

Councillor Colin Rayner, member for highways at the authority, said: "I am looking forward to the end of this project.

"Presently, we are looking into the idea of having public art on the roundabout from local schools and colleges.

"I would love to see a restored fountain on the roundabout making it a wonderful entrance to Windsor and will request an investigation to see if this is viable."
