Reading set for 'biggest ever' Pride event

The Reading Pride event has begun with thousands of people flocking to the Berkshire town.

Now in its seventh year, organisers are hoping to attract more than the 12,000 people who attended last year's event.

A colourful parade will make its way through the streets of the town and the Market Place to the festival site at Kings Meadow Park.

Swedish pop star Agnes, best known for her number three hitRelease Me is headlining the event.

Former Eurovision contenders Scooch are also set to perform.

The family festival is aimed at celebrating diversity in the Thames Valley.

Chairwoman Lorna McArdle said: "We are expecting up to 12,000 people to attend this year.

"We have got a funfair and up to 40 market stalls, it will be a great event."
