M1 southbound closed as two injured in 'serious crash'

Two people were seriously injured in a crash on the M1 in Hertfordshire that closed the southbound carriageway.

The collision between a Renault Clio and Vauxhall Astra happened between Junctions Seven and Six, near to Hemel Hempstead, at about 09:40 GMT.

The Highways Agency said there were long delays in the area, with the road closed for several hours.

Sgt Colin Jenkinson from Bedfordshire Police said the collision caused "serious injuries to those involved".

The crash happened just before the exit slip road to the M25 junction.

Police said the Renault Clio was in the central lane when the collision happened.
