A man aged in his 50s has died following an attack outside a bar in Hertford, say police.

Police believe he was struck to the face, causing him to fall to the ground. He was taken to hospital, but died later.

A 26-year-old man from Buntingford has been arrested and is being held in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Jerome Kent, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "We are investigating this man's death thoroughly to establish exactly what happened and the cause of his tragic death, which we are treating as suspicious.

"The events yesterday evening were seen by a number of people who were in the bar at the time.

"We are speaking to a number of witnesses, although I would urge anyone who saw what happened and has not yet been in contact with my officers, to please contact us."
