Amy Cattigan given lifetime animal ban after dead cat found in cupboard

A woman whose cat was found dead in a cupboard at her flat has been banned from keeping animals for life.

Amy Cattigan, 20, of Hollyfield, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to three charges of neglecting her pet.

At St Albans Magistrates' Court she was also given a six-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a three-month curfew order from 21:00 to 06:00.

"It was a particularly nasty case and the poor cat must have suffered," said RSPCA inspector Robert Hartley.

"The behaviour of the defendant in this case showed an absolute disregard for the cat's welfare."

The RSPCA discovered the cat, called Meew, at Cattigan's flat last year in a cupboard strewn with excrement.
