Wrong-way A1M driver arrested after police car crash

A man has been arrested after he drove the wrong way down the A1M in Hertfordshire for about six miles (10km), before hitting a police car.

Officers were called at 01:42 BST after motorists spotted the 26-year-old's silver Ford Fiesta join the road at junction 7 near Stevenage.

A road block was put up near junction 4, which is where the crash happened. No-one was injured.

Police said the Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Officers closed the A1M at junction 4 temporarily after the car was stopped and it was reopened an hour later.

The driver remains in police custody.
