A front seat passenger who survived a car crash that killed two friends has been cleared of aggravated vehicle taking by a jury.

Wasim Shah, 23, of Mile Road, Bedford, was in an Audi A3 which ended up on its roof at Woolmer Green, Knebworth in November 2012 after a police chase.

The car was driven by Michael Cush, 27, and passengers Karl Spencer, 25, and Cameron Nimmo, 20, were killed.

Mr Shah denied the charge and was cleared at St Albans Crown Court.

Cush was jailed for eight years last year, having pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one of aggravated vehicle taking.

He had stolen the Audi from Stevenage Leisure Park on 2 November 2012.

Police officers followed the car, but it failed to stop and crashed at between 60 and 65mph.
