A six-year-old girl has been hit and killed by a car in Hertfordshire.

Lara Fernandes-Pontes was taken to hospital following the collision on Hayling Road, at about 15:00 BST on Sunday but later died.

Hertfordshire Police has asked anyone who may have seen what happened in South Oxhey to come forward.

Sgt Chris Kent described it as "a tragic loss of a young life" and said the family was receiving help from specialist officers.

The driver of the Land Rover Discovery and its occupants were unharmed but "obviously shaken by what happened", he said.
