Luton mum knocked out and robbed while pushing buggy

A young mother who was pushing her son in a buggy was punched unconscious and robbed in a "cowardly attack".

The 17-year-old was hit by a man who demanded and then stole her bag near a green area in Byron Road, Luton, on Monday evening.

It contained cash, a bank card, nappies, baby cream and a baby book.

Police are keen to trace a woman who helped the victim after the attack between 19:00 and 19:20 GMT and alerted emergency services.

Det Con Tom Hamm said: "This was a cowardly attack on a young mum whose main concern was the safety of her child.

"We know a lady found the victim and we need to trace her as she may hold vital information that could help this investigation.

"I would also urge anyone else who saw the incident or anyone who can help identify the man responsible to come forward and speak with officers, in confidence."
