The body of a Bedfordshire man who has been missing since New Year's Day has been found in a river.

Neil Devlin, 37, from Town Bridge Mill, Leighton Buzzard, was last seen leaving a friend's house in Falcon Mews at about 23:30 GMT.

Bedfordshire Police said a body recovered from the River Ouzel in the town on Monday had since been identified as Mr Devlin.

A spokeswoman said the case would now be handed to the coroner.

Family and friends became concerned after Mr Devlin failed to turn up to work at Morrisons supermarket in the New Year.

Specialist officers had been searching for Mr Devlin for weeks, including at Clipstone Brook behind his workplace.

A police spokeswoman said: "Neil's family have been informed and it is expected HM Coroner for Bedfordshire will open an inquest in due course.

"The senior investigating officer, DI Zara Brown, has asked that we pass on her thanks to those of you who have helped with this inquiry."
