Police are searching a flooded Bedfordshire brook for a man who has been missing since New Year's Day.

Neil Devlin, 37, from Town Bridge Mill, Leighton Buzzard, was last seen leaving a friend's house in Falcon Mews at about 23:30 GMT.

Specialist officers are searching Clipstone Brook near Lake Street behind the Morrisons where Mr Devlin worked.

A police spokeswoman said they were becoming "increasingly concerned" for his safety.

'Out of character'

Mr Devlin, who has mild learning difficulties, is described as white, 5ft 2ins to 5ft 5ins (1.58m to 1.65m), of small or slim build with short ginger hair and a pale complexion.

He was last seen wearing a dark anorak-style jacket with a hood, a dark top and jeans.

Det Insp Zara Brown said: "We are becoming increasingly concerned about Neil's whereabouts as this kind of behaviour is completely out of character for him.

"I would urge anyone who can help trace Neil to contact the police urgently."
