Two armed men in 'Scream' masks shouted "trick or treat?" outside a Bedford flat before barging inside and carrying out a violent robbery.

The men carried a knife and an axe when they went into the property on Grange Road at about 21:30 GMT on Thursday.

A 26-year-old man inside the flat was bound with tape and cut on his head, legs and face to make the woman who lived there hand over money.

Police have described the attackers as two Asian men.

Police said the 24-year-old woman had money in the flat after recently selling her car.

Det Con Mike Armstrong, said: "The injuries to the man are very nasty and obviously this was a very frightening incident for both people involved.

"Officers have made extensive searches, forensic examinations and knocked on doors in the area, but there are bound to be people who were around at the time that we haven't yet spoken to."
