The M1 in Hertfordshire has reopened after a lorry overturned early on Thursday morning, blocking four lanes.

The crash, which happened just after junction eight near Redbourn at about 06:00 BST, closed the northbound carriageway for nearly five hours, while recovery took place.

The driver was not injured and no other vehicles were involved, police said.

The Highways Agency warned drivers to expect "residual delays" on the motorway and in the surrounding area.

A spokesman said the hard shoulder was the only lane now closed, but engineers would be returning to make repairs overnight.
