A large quantity of champagne has been stolen in an "audacious" raid at a warehouse in Hertfordshire.

A lorry driver arriving at St Martin's Road, Hoddesdon, was flagged down by a man in a high visibility vest and told all warehouse loading bays were filled.

He was directed to nearby Ratty's Lane where the champagne was loaded into a box van but no violence was reported.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the theft which happened on Tuesday between 07:15 and 08:30 BST.

The raiders' box van was driven away along Essex Road to the A10, police said.

Officers have urged anyone with any information about the theft to contact them.
