A father charged with the murder of his 11-year-old daughter has appeared in crown court in a wheelchair.

Simon Jonathan Thompson, 52, of Homefield Road, Bushey, is accused of killing Rebecca Thompson who was found strangled at her home in Bushey on 22 June.

Mr Thompson appeared at St Albans Crown Court via video link.

Mr Thompson, who did not make a plea at the hearing on Tuesday, was sitting in a wheelchair with his arm in a cast.

He spoke only to confirm his identity.

Sally Mealing-McLeod, prosecuting, told Judge Andrew Bright QC, Mr Thompson was charged with the murder of his daughter.

He is expected to enter a plea on 20 September and a provisional trial date for 7 October has been set.

He was remanded in custody at Bedford prison.
