A 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a fire in Milton Keynes has been released from bail, police said.

Officers now believe the fire in a property in St Leger Court, Great Linford on Sunday is unlikely to have been started deliberately.

It took the decision after receiving a provisional fire investigation report.

The body has not been formally identified but police said they believe they know who the woman is.

Forensic examination

Officers said they are in contact with her family.

Thames Valley Police said a "significant number of enquiries" had taken place since the fire, including detailed forensic examination.

Det Ch Insp Gill Wootton said: "While it is not possible to give a definitive cause of the fire at this stage, a deliberate act now seems less likely."

She added the results of the provisional investigation report would be subject to any additional evidence from its continuing enquiries.

"A full and final report will be prepared for the coroner once the investigation is complete," she said.
