A man has been arrested after a person was found dead in a fire in Milton Keynes.

Emergency services were called to a property at St Leger Court, Great Linford, shortly before 20:00 BST on Sunday, where the occupant was found dead.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated and a police cordon remains in place while investigators examine the scene.

The man, 58, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Thames Valley Police said formal identification of the body, which is still inside the property, is yet to take place and officers are trying to establish the victim's identity and trace their next of kin.

Officers said they were working closely with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish how the fire started and the scene is likely to remain cordoned off for several days.

Supt Barry Halliday said called it a "serious incident" which he recognised would cause concern in the community.

"I would like to reassure residents that the incident is being fully investigated and anyone with concerns or questions can raise these with local neighbourhood policing officers, who will be carrying out extra patrols of the area," he said.
