A recommendation for 66 additional Gypsy and traveller pitches in Bedfordshire has been ratified by a council executive committee.

Proposals for three existing sites at Tingrith, Caddington and Pulloxhill, will now be considered by the full Central Bedfordshire Council in April.

New sites at Biggleswade, Potton, Stotfold and Faldo Road, west of Barton-Le-Clay will also be discussed.

The plans will be put out for public consultation in May, the council said.

The Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities will consider proposals before they become part of the council plan.

At a meeting earlier, 15 speakers objected to a number of sites arguing, among other things, they are unsuitable locations.

The council said it had a "statutory obligation" to provide the extra pitches in order to satisfy government requirements.

Residents were originally told 157 more pitches were needed to meet community needs up to 2031.
