Binman in Hitchin hit by firework in truck

A binman suffered burns to his hand and face when he was struck by a firework which exploded in the back of a refuse truck in Hertfordshire.

The Veolia Environmental Services worker was injured while working in Garden Row, Hitchin, at 07:50 GMT.

The man received slight burns to his hand and face was taken to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

In a joint statement, North Hertfordshire District Council and Veolia said they were investigating.

They said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.
