Police are to begin questioning a footballer arrested on suspicion of murdering a 15-year-old girl.

Megan-Leigh Peat, of Westoning, was found dead in Ailesbury Road, Ampthill, Bedfordshire, on Saturday. Police have revealed she was stabbed.

Stoke City academy footballer Andrew Hall, 18, was arrested and had been under police guard in hospital where he was treated for an injury.

Mr Hall is now in custody at Greyfriars police station in Bedford.

A spokesman for Stoke City FC earlier confirmed Mr Hall had been arrested by police.

The club spokesman said: "The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Megan's family at this time."

Tributes have been left at the scene for Megan-Leigh, who had gone to the property which belongs to a friend with an 18-year-old man.

Friends of the victim have left flowers, photographs and notes at the house.

One friend wrote: "The emptiness and hurt you have left so many of us with is unimaginable. A beautiful girl on the inside and out, whose life was just beginning."

Another note read: "Beautiful Megan, I remember the day you were born, the joy you brought your mum and dad to have a daughter and to give your two brothers a little sister. Then you grew into a happy smiley teenager. Heaven has gained an angel."

Chelsie McAneny, 16, who said she had taken some lessons with Megan-Leigh at Harlington Upper School, said: "Everyone loved her, she was bubbly and popular and she stuck up for everyone, even when she was down."

Bedfordshire Police has appealed for anyone with information about the inquiry to contact officers.
