Police are distributing leaflets outside the Tesco supermarket a man visited minutes before being brutally attacked.

The 26-year-old Polish man, who is now in a coma, left the Cardington Road store with his shopping at 1941 BST on Saturday 28 August.

A woman found him 15 minutes later lying in a lay-by near the shopping complex.

Officers will also be handing out leaflets near the lay-by later.

'Lines of inquiry'

The injured man is being treated at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. His mother has flown from Poland to be at his bedside.

Police said it was not clear how he was injured.

Det Insp Mark Tobutt, of Bedfordshire Police, said: "We are doing this to jog the memories of anyone shopping at Tesco or in the area at around 1930 BST to 2000 BST last Saturday.

"We are current pursuing a number of lines of inquiry and would like to speak to two men, believed to be Polish, seen at the entrance to the Tesco car park.

"We are also interested in tracing a green VW Golf seen in the area at the time when the man sustained his injuries."
