Man saved from Bedfordshire flat fire dies in hospital

A 54-year-old man has died in a specialist burns unit in Essex after being rescued from a fire in a block of flats in Bedfordshire.

Firefighters carried the man from his flat in Kilgour Court in Leighton Buzzard on Sunday 22 August.

He was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford where he died last Friday.

Police said they would not release any more details until a post-mortem examination was carried out and an inquest into his death was opened.

A 42-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the fire and released on police bail until Friday 3 September pending further inquiries.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

An examination of the property by fire investigators and forensic experts is currently being carried out, a police spokeswoman said.
