Brighton Pier rape: Man wanted by police arrested

Brighton Pier Police said the woman was raped in toilets in the Palace of Fun Arcade

A 23-year-old man wanted by police has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked in customer toilets on Brighton Pier.

Sussex Police said the woman was raped in toilets in the Palace of Fun Arcade on Friday.

She met her suspected attacker earlier in the day and the assault happened later that night, police said.

The man from Farnham, who was also arrested for being wanted for recall to prison, was bailed until November.

Officers said they were called to an allegation of sexual assault near the Brighton Wheel at about 21:40 BST and detained a man.

The rape was understood to have taken place earlier that evening at about 20:00 BST, police added.

Detectives have urged anyone who was on the pier at about that time, or who saw anything suspicious near the wheel or the pier later that evening, to contact them.
