John Heald charged with Bridlington landlady murder

A man has been charged with the murder of a guesthouse landlady in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.

John Heald, 53, of Foljambe Road in Rotherham was arrested in his home town on Friday.

Bei Carter, who was 49, was found dead at the Morayland Guest House in Bridlington on 18 July.

Mr Heald has also been charged with 10 offences of rape in South Yorkshire which are alleged to have taken place on 13 July.

He is due to appear at Beverley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Senior district crown prosecutor, Adrienne Gower, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has been working closely with Humberside Police in connection with this case.

"Having carefully considered all of the evidence presented to us, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence to charge John Heald with 10 offences of rape in South Yorkshire on 13 July 2014 and the murder of Bei Carter in Bridlington on 18 July.

"This defendant now stands charged with serious criminal offences and has the right to a fair trial."
