Two men who died after English Channel dive named

Two men who died after getting into difficulty during a diving expedition off the Sussex coast have been named as Peter Stanning and Christopher Mehegan.

The men had been with a group of divers mid-Channel, south of Eastbourne, on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Stanning, 44, was from Highbury Hill, north London, while Mr Mehegan, 45, was from Brentwood in Essex.

They were airlifted to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

They had been on a boat operated by the Sussex-based charter company Channel Diving.

Sussex Police are investigating the cause of their deaths and said post-mortem examinations would be carried out on Wednesday.
