Eight charged over child exploitation

Eight people have been charged with child exploitation offences after police raids in Kent, Yorkshire and the West Midlands.

The raids on Wednesday were part of an investigation by Kent Police into child sexual exploitation in Margate, Gravesend, Dover and Folkestone.

A police spokesman said 22 people were arrested. Eight were charged and 14 have been released on bail.

The charges include rape, false imprisonment and prostitution.

Several were also charged with administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower to allow sexual activity.

Seven of the eight people charged have been remanded in custody. The eighth person has been released on bail.
