Security van raids accused appear in court

A man and a woman charged in connection with raids on security vans across the West Midlands, have appeared in court.

The attacks happened in the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire between 20 June 2013 and 28 February 2014.

Adrian Durant, 30, of Emerson Road, Wolverhampton, and Sally Hipkins, 29, of North Road, Tipton, appeared at Telford Magistrates' Court.

They are due to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on 27 May.

The investigations into the raids, codenamed Operation Swordfish, has involved the West Mercia, Staffordshire and West Midlands forces.

The pair have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, in connection with armed raids on vans in Wolverhampton, Penkridge, Telford, Kidderminster and Stafford.

Adrian Durant was remanded in custody while Ms Hipkins was granted conditional bail.

The police have not revealed how much money was taken.
