Windermere body confirmed as student Matthew Jordan
A body found in the water at Windermere is that of missing student Matthew Jordan, police have confirmed.
The 20-year-old, from Middlesbrough, was last seen early on 27 March in Bowness-on-Windermere after becoming separated from friends on a night out.
About 1,000 volunteers had taken part in search efforts.
His body was found by Cumbria Police's marine unit on Tuesday. A force spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Det Insp Furzana Nazir added: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family at this tragic time.
"The response in helping to search for Matthew was tremendous. We cannot thank everyone enough for their help and assistance.
"We continue to support the family at this very difficult time."
Matthew's parents, Clare and Bob Jordan, described his disappearance as their "worst nightmare" and had asked boat owners to help search Windermere.
CCTV images had shown Matthew leaving the Stag's Head pub in Bowness and heading towards the Lake Road promenade.
A Facebook page set up to publicise the search operation has more than 4,000 members.
At a press conference two weeks ago, Cumbria Police revealed his mobile phone battery had been flat on the night of his disappearance and his requests for a charger, a taxi and a room for the night from "local establishments" had gone unheeded.
