A man has been jailed for duping a deaf couple into paying money for a surrogate child that did not exist.

Gino Di Caprio, 52, of Old Row, Rossendale, Lancashire, obtained an undisclosed sum of money from the couple in Reading, Berkshire between January 2012 and August 2013.

He pleaded guilty in January to false representation to make gain for oneself or another.

He was jailed for three-and-a-half years at Reading Crown Court.

A confiscation hearing has been set for June.
