Soldiers from the East prepare to leave Afghanistan

About 1,000 military personnel from the Eastern region are nearing the end of their last major deployment to Afghanistan.

Over the past 13 years more than 60 local soldiers and airmen have lost their lives.

The military presence is scaling down and a huge removal operation is underway.
