Police officer charged over Horsham club doorman assault

A Surrey police officer has been charged with assault and making threats of violence after being arrested outside a West Sussex nightclub.

Det Insp Anthony Giles, who is based in Guildford, was off duty when he was arrested by Sussex Police in Horsham.

The alleged assault of a door supervisor took place outside the Chameleon Club just after 02:00 GMT on 22 December, Sussex Police said.

The 43-year-old is due before Crawley magistrates on 12 February.

A Surrey Police spokesman said he had not been suspended but was on "non-operational duties".
