Could rabies return to the UK?

3 February 2014 Last updated at 09:44 GMT

Rabies is a killer disease, but strict quarantine and import laws have meant the last case of rabies in an animal was 44 years ago in Newmarket, Suffolk.

But now experts fear the smuggling of puppies from eastern Europe is once again putting the UK at risk from the same disease.

Inside Out's David Whiteley asks if the disease could return to Britain.

Inside Out is broadcast on Monday, 3 February at 19:30 GMT on BBC One East nationwide for seven days thereafter on the iPlayer.
